The House with Chicken Legs is being published by Scholastic in the US on September 25th, adorned with this glorious cover by Red Nose Studios.
Advanced Review Copies (Galleys) are already wandering around America, and creating quite a stir! Over the last few weeks I’ve had three wonderful pieces of news:
1. Indie’s Introduce …
I am thrilled The House with Chicken Legs has been chosen as an Indie’s Introduce title. Indie’s Introduce is a program created by The American Booksellers Association to support and promote debut authors at independent bookstores.
Each season a panel of booksellers from around country reads debut works submitted by their publishers, and ten children’s books are selected to be showcased as ‘the best of the season’s debuts’. It is a real privilege and an honour to see The House with Chicken Legs included in their wonderful Summer/Fall list, which can be read in full here.
Here are a few quotes from the booksellers, about The House with Chicken Legs:
” … a delightful testament to found families and community resilience.” – Jessica Hahl, The Country Bookshelf (Bozeman, MT)
“I was hooked from the beginning! I just wanted to know what would happen to Marinka, Yaga, and the house with chicken legs. The story takes you on an adventure full of twists and turns and makes you think. Loved it!” -Allison Barton, The Children’s Book Garden (Berlin, MD)
“Coco meets a traditional Baba Yaga story, with a twist!” -Buffy Cummins, Second Star to the Right Books (Denver, CO)
2. Junior Library Guild …
The House with Chicken Legs has also been selected to be part of The Junior Library Guild’s subscription box for librarians. The Junior Library Guild has a reputation for delivering high quality recommendations and for selecting books that go on to become award-winners, so this is hugely exciting news!
3. Starred Kirkus Review …
The final piece of lovely news is The House with Chicken Legs received a glorious STARRED review in the July 15th issue of Kirkus.
“Heartbreaking, uplifting, and absolutely beautiful. ” – Kirkus Reviews
