Before The House with Chicken Legs was published I asked a brilliant dollmaker, Kseniya Korshunova of Kukunya art dolls shop in Sobinka, Russia, to make eighteen Marinka dolls (Marinka is the main character in The House with Chicken Legs).
Kseniya did an amazing job recreating Marinka (I love her long curly hair and skulls and flowers dress!). She even made a little Jack for each doll (Jack is Marinka’s pet Jackdaw). Each doll was lovingly hand-made, so each one is slightly different and perfectly unique!
I gave away most of the dolls as gifts, to people who worked on The House with Chicken Legs with me, but I saved a couple with the idea that one day I would run a competition for readers to win them!
In this competition I would like to challenge readers to create a piece of art inspired by The House with Chicken Legs. It could be a drawing, a painting, a model, a doll, a sculpture … anything you like!
I will pick one winner and two runners-up in each of the following age categories:
- Under 12 year olds
- 12 to 16 year olds
The prizes will be:
- For the runners-up: a signed copy of The House with Chicken Legs, with a matching bookmark and badge.
- For each of the winners: a signed copy of The House with Chicken Legs, a matching bookmark and badge, and one limited edition Marinka doll (with Jack!)
The competition is open to readers in the UK only and the closing date is midnight on the 18th December 2018. Hopefully I should be able to get the prizes to the winners before Christmas! Only one entry per person please, and the work should of course be the entrants own original creation.
Please send your entries to:
thehousewithchickenlegs [at] gmail [dot] com
Remember to let me know the age (or age category) of the entrant.
I look forward to seeing lots of lovely art inspired by The House with Chicken Legs!
