This year is the 15th anniversary of the award, which celebrates and supports new talent in children’s publishing. The shortlist is chosen by Waterstones booksellers, and knowing how passionate and knowledgable about children’s books they are, makes this shortlisting incredibly special to me.
Some of my favourite authors have won this award in previous years: Kiran Millwood Hargrave, Katherine Rundell and Michelle Harrison to name just a few.
There are three categorys in the award: Illustrated Books, Younger Fiction, and Older Fiction. The House with Chicken Legs is nominated in the Younger Fiction category alongside five other absolutely brilliant books:
Winners of each category and the overall winner will be announced at an event on Thursday 21 March. I can’t wait to attend and celebrate with the other shortlisted authors! THANK YOU WATERSTONES!
